성명서
티벳의 평화 정착을 요구하며
한국기독교장로회는 지난 수일간 티벳의 수도 라사를 중심으로 확산된 티벳인들의 시위를 중국 정부 당국이 폭력적으로 진압함에 따라 100명에 가까운 시민들이 희생되는 등 심각한 인권유린의 사태가 계속되고 있다는 소식을 접하고 심각한 우려와 함께 우리의 입장을 표명하고자한다.
정의와 평화의 하나님 나라를 실현하기 위하여 최선을 다 해온 본 교단은 모든 생명과 창조 세계의 존엄성은 어떠한 상황 하에서도 유린될 수 없음을 고백한다. 또한 평화는 물리적인 힘에 의해서가 아니라 평화적 수단에 의해 성취되고 보장되어야 함을 천명한다.
그러므로 우리는 다음과 같이 요구하는 바이다.
1. 중국 정부는 티벳의 독립(자치)를 요구하는 시민들의 시위에 대한 폭력적인 진압을 즉각 중단하여야 한다.
2. 중국 정부는 티벳인들이 자신들의 운명과 미래를 결정할 권리를 존중하여야 한다.
3. 중국 정부와 티벳 지도자들은 즉각적인 평화 대화를 시작하여야 하며, 이 대화를 통하여 양 측 민중들이 정치, 경제, 문화적으로 상호 공생할 수 있는 대안을 모색하기 바란다.
우리는 전 세계의 형제교회들과 함께, 정의와 평화의 하나님께서 티벳과, 중국정부, 티벳 지도자와 민중들을 평화와 생명의 길로 인도해 주시기를 기도할 것이다.

Calls for Peace in Tibet

The Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea (PROK) is deeply concerned about the recent eruption of violence and loss of life in the Tibetan capital, Lhasa, and in neighboring towns, during and in the wake of demonstrations by Tibetan independence movement protesters.
As a Christian church we uphold the dignity and sanctity of life and creation. We believe that peace can be achieved and maintained only by peaceful means, not by the use of force.
We urge that:
1. the government of the People’s Republic of China stop using force against Tibetan independence movement advocates and supporters;
2. the Chinese government respect the right of the Tibetan people to determine their destiny themselves;
3. Chinese and Tibetan leaders immediately begin a dialogue to achieve peace and to seek political, economic and cultural solutions mutually beneficial to both Chinese and Tibetan peoples.
We pray with ecumenical partners around the world that the God of peace and justice guide Tibetan and Chinese leaders and people in the way of peace and life.
